Magazine Spread Reboot

This design employs a clear hierarchy, layout, and image curation to deliver information in a two page magazine spread. Different colors and font choices are used to create several clear levels of hierarchy from titles, to subtitles, to paragraph text and captions. The article is about changes in health and fitness that might be coming in the new year. To reflect this, green, a color associated with growth and change, is used to highlight parts of the composition. The imagery in the composition best reflects the magazine audience as well as the content of the article. The article is from Outside magazine, therefore an image set in the outdoors would be appropriate. A man running on a remote dirt road is the perfect image to represent both health and fitness and the outdoors. The vector icons were created to maintain consistency as well as highlight the essence of the topics at hand. The layout maximized readability by adhering to a two column grid system for one page and a three column system for the other. Fully justified text to avoid paragraphs with ragged edges was implemented along with wide margins to give the viewer some visual breathing room, also enhancing the design’s readability. Using layout, hierarchy, and images, the article's information was delivered in a way that informs and intrigues the viewer.
